BEN – The Behavior Education Network – is the premier membership site for pet professionals to learn about the sciences of animal behavior (ethology) and animal learning and how to apply that knowledge to prevent pet behavior problems by delivering behavior wellness care and, when appropriate, creating and implementing relevant, effective, behavior modification plans.

When you join BEN you have access to information based on the application and interpretation of scientific information about pet behavior. BEN is focused on dog and cat behavior and behavior problems, but many basic principles apply to birds, horses and other species as well. BEN is a multi-media site so you can learn not only by reading but by listening to audio and watching video.

Regardless of your field – veterinary medicine, dog training, animal sheltering and rescue, behavior consulting, boarding, pet sitting and daycare, we firmly believe that providing quality behavior care is good for your business. By helping to improve the behavior health of pets, you grow your business, keep you and your staff safer, and experience greater personal satisfaction in your dealings with people and their pets.

As a member of BEN you’ll have access to quality information that is constantly being updated on a myriad of behavior topics including -

  • Wellness topics, including introducing pets to one another, preparing pets for moving and other changes, puppy and kitten behavior concerns, myths about crates and crate training, housetraining, play behavior and more
  • A scientific (ethological) perspective on social dominance, territoriality, behavior development, motivation (as compared to the outdated idea of “drives”), and other topics in ethology relevant to pet behavior
  • Appropriate implementation of behavior modification techniques, an area that desperately needs addressing
  • Dog behavior problems including separation anxiety, aggression, barking, fears, phobias, and more
  • Cat behavior problems such as fighting between family cats, litterbox problems, spraying and marking and others
  • Implementation of behavior services including designing puppy and kitten classes, introducing pets to baby classes, preparing dogs for thunder and firework season, and more!
